ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS:

Have you given consideration to applying for admission to the United States Military Academy at West Point? If you have high academic and leadership credentials, are above average in physical fitness and seek a challenging career, then this is a fine avenue to take. West Point is interested in you and welcomes your application.

IT IS TIME TO MOVE FORWARD WITH YOUR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

It is simple. Go to www.usma.edu/admissions and fill out the Candidate Questionnaire on line. With this you are on your way. The web site contains a huge amount of information on this top tier educational institution. If you have questions, please contact the local admissions representative Colonel (Retired) Claude Shipley at 850-508-7926

Summer Leaders Seminar for "Senior’s to be"

The United States Military Academy hosts the Summer Leaders Seminar (SLS) for high school juniors going into their senior year. The weeklong program of academic classes, military training, physical fitness training and intramural athletics gives students the opportunity to experience cadet life and to see first-hand what West Point has to offer. Each year 1,000 highly talented high school juniors are invited to attend the SLS, which is led and supervised by West Point cadets entering their final or "Firstie" year. What better way for a student to understand our academy than to live it? SLS provides a unique overview of cadet life and a once in a lifetime opportunity for competitive candidates. SLS is the number one accessions program with nearly half of the attendees joining the next class of the United States Corps of Cadets and becoming future members of the Long Gray Line.

The SLS brochure, course descriptions and additional SLS information are located online at http://admissions.westpoint.edu/.

Please keep in mind that West Point uses a rolling acceptance process so the Academy recommends you apply early. Enrollment is open December 14, 2009 to April 1, 2010. Please ensure that you've read and understand everything on this page as well as the SLS page; you can then sign up for SLS 2010. Note that this is a two-step process. You must do both of the following to complete the application: 1) submit the Candidate Questionnaire, AND 2) complete the Workshop Preference worksheet. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Invitations to the seminar are awarded on a competitive basis using the academic, athletic and extracurricular information provided in the SLS application.

Students apply for SLS online only at http://admissions.westpoint.edu/.

Reminder: The sooner you apply the better your chances. Because as eligible candidates apply and are selected , the positions are filled—so waiting until late in the cycle may mean you are not selected if otherwise qualified.

LOCAL WEST POINT SOCIETY OF TALLAHASSEE FIELD FORCE ACTIVITY:

We will build upon highly successful events to ensure more attendees in the future; the Washington AIM SOP is a great document to consider for our future use--modified as appropriate.
